About the Organization
Organization Description
History of Hillsboro Christian Church Hillsboro, Missouri (1970-2025) Hillsboro Christian Church (originally known as First Christian Church of Hillsboro) met together for its first service in January of 1970 in the Masonic Lodge in Hillsboro with 16 people attending. Ken Patterson preached the first service. It came about as 3 ladies in the Hillsboro area wanted a Christian church here. At the time, there were Christian churches in the neighboring towns of De Soto and Festus. Jim Stafford Sr. and Dale Thebeau (who was in his senior year at St Louis Christian College and is still a member of HCC and an elder) from De Soto Christian Church and Ken Patterson from Fairview Christian Church worked together to make that happen. As the congregation grew, they next moved to the Goldman Fire House in Goldman about 5 miles north of Hillsboro. Next the congregation began constructing a building at Business 21 and Pearl Drive in 1971-1972. In 1975, after being there for about 3 yrs, we had to add on to the existing building. During that time, we had 5 preachers Dale Thebeau (5 Yrs), Richard Neu (2 yrs), one whose name has escaped us (1yr), Bob Miller (9 yrs), and Ken Vogel (27 yrs). In the early 1990ās, 13 acres were purchased off Highway B just outside of Hillsboro. The old church building was sold to the Hillsboro School District and was used as an administration building. As the new building was being built, the congregation met at Brownās Funeral Home in Hillsboro for a year and grew. We moved into the new building in our current location in September 1996. Hillsboro Christian Church celebrated its 50th Anniversary in January 2020 with 4 of the 6 preachers of HCC in attendance. In 2014, after 27 years at HCC Ken Vogel retired so he and Carolyn could go back on the mission field in Liberia, West Africa. Andy Weaver was then hired as our 6th minister and was at HCC for 11 years Hillsboro Christian Church aligns with the restoration movement and strives to follow the first century church model. The model consists of autonomous congregations of Christians who are led by a group of elders. The current elders at HCC are as follows: Dale Thebeau, Jerry Waggoner, Jim McClung, Jeff Stewart, and Greg Spillman
