Position Description
Position Title:Ģż“”³¦³¦“dzܲԳٲ¹²Ō³Ł
Department: Business Office
Reports to: Business Office Director/Controller
The mission of the Business Office is to account for institutional financial assets by providing sound management of the collegeās financial resources, maintaining accounting systems, records, and related internal control and reporting relevant financial information of the college to its employees, departments, trustees, and constituents.Ā Institutional Goals supported by Department: IG 3, 5
A. Summary
This position is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, preparing financial reports, and managing fixed assets. This position also provides support for budgeting and audit processes.
B. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Prepare journal entries and reconcile bank statements as part of the month-end close process.
2. Report financial data to various accrediting and governmental agencies.
3. Maintain fixed asset subledger by reviewing capital expenditures, adding/deleting assets, and preparing journal entries.
4. Communicate approved budgets to department supervisors and review budget submissions for accuracy.
5. Assist in preparing internal financial reports.
6. Assist in preparing documentation for the annual audit.
7. Serve as a backup to other Business Office roles, including accounts receivable, payroll, or other general ledger processes.
8. Assist the Director in other general accounting and reporting tasks as assigned.
C. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Knowledge of standard accounting principles and best practices
2. Competency in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word, and an aptitude for learning new systems
3. Ability to work with a high level of autonomy and collaboration
4. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
5. Strong attention to detail
6. Ability to communicate clearly and thoroughly
7. Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while under time constraints
D. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Ā· Bachelorās degree in accounting or related field
Ā· Minimum three years of accounting experience required (five years or more preferred)
Ā· Experience working in nonprofit or higher education setting preferred
E. Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position is primarily in a professional office setting, working with sensitive information. In this role, routine use of office equipment will be required, including a computer, photocopier, scanner, and telephone. There is prolonged use of a computer while sitting at a desk.
Must be able to focus and concentrate with precision on a computer screen. Reaching, stooping, standing, kneeling, bending, twisting, and walking are all required.
This role typically works weekdays, but additional training may be required outside regular workdays on occasion.
Travel is not a routine part of this role, but continuing education travel may be requested to stay up to date with payroll requirements as well as other best practices.
