About the Position
Position Description
Qualifications:
- Consistently exemplifies the Christ-like character, spiritual maturity, and servant leadership qualities of an elder as described in Scripture (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, 1 Peter 5:1-4).
- Possesses a clear calling to pastoral ministry, evidenced by a genuine shepherd's heart and a deep love for God's people.
- Embraces the theological heritage of New Community and is committed to the mission, vision, and values of the church.
- Demonstrates biblical proficiency, with the ability to preach God's Word with clarity, conviction, and practical application.
- A man of deep personal devotion to Christ, and consistent prayer; living a life characterized by faith, integrity, humility, and devotion at home, in the church, and in the community.
Responsibilities:
- Elder Participation: Serve as a church elder; assisting in church vision, providing spiritual leadership, monitoring the spiritual health of the church, and ensuring that biblical principles are upheld.
- Biblical Preaching and Teaching: Prepare and deliver biblically sound, Christ-centered, and relevant sermons for weekly worship services; lead various other teaching opportunities (e.g., Bible studies and classes) to foster spiritual growth. (2 Timothy 4:2)
- Pastoral Care & Shepherding: Know, feed, lead, and protect the congregation; oversees and participates in spiritual guidance, counseling, visitation, and prayer support for all members of the congregation. (1 Peter 5:2-3)
- Discipleship & Equipping Believers: Ensure opportunities for spiritual growth and discipleship are available by developing and implementing pathways that help believers reach spiritual maturity and equip them for personal ministry and service within the church and community. (Ephesians 4:11-13)
- Worship Service Leadership: Oversee the planning and leading of God-honoring weekly worship services, including actively leading the church in corporate prayer, believer's baptism by immersion, and communion. (Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; John 4:24; Acts 20:7)
- Ministry Oversight & Development: In collaboration with existing church leadership (e.g., elders, ministry team leaders), nurture and guide the church's ministries, ensuring they bring people into and deepen their relationship with Christ.
- Public Representation: Act as a key representative in Salina, reflecting Christ through public and civic engagement, and proactively build relationships to understand community needs, utilize resources, and connect the church to local opportunities for impact.
- Promoting Evangelism & Outreach: Champions a culture of spiritual maturity, love, and deep biblical understanding for the purpose of ensuring that NCCC is focused on caring for the lost, maturing the saved and being salt and light in a broken world. (Mark 16:15; 2 Timothy 4:5)
- Fostering Unity & Biblical Fellowship: Collaborates with church leaders and congregants to actively promote love and authentic fellowship within the church body, strive to resolve conflicts, and maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace based on essential biblical truths. (John 17:20-23).
